The Delray Beach Market, billed as the largest food hall in the state, is nearly ready to open, but the Covid-19 pandemic has inspired some late design changes.

Most notably, the 150,000-square-foot food hall is expected to debut in spring with fewer vendors than originally planned. Delray Beach Market was planned to open with 32 food stalls, but will instead have 25 to make room for more seating areas spaced apart, said Jordana Jarjura, president of Delray Beach-based Menin, which is developing the market.

Additional stalls can be added at a later date, she said.

Delray Beach Market will open with expanded outdoor seating and takeout options to accommodate shifting consumer trends brought on by the pandemic, Jarjura added.

"People are more comfortable outside and we think they’ll be that way for a while," Jarjura said. "Those type of things just take small tweaks, but will hopefully help in the long run."

As an answer to the rise in popularity of third-party delivery and takeout, Menin added dedicated pickup spots to the Delray Beach Market's parking lot.

Being in downtown Delray Beach, at 33 S.E. Third Ave., the market's delivery and takeout features were always part of the plan, but Covid-19 spurred the development team to establish better infrastructure for these options.

The Delray Beach Market will span about 150,000 square feet.

Inside the food hall, Clique Hospitality will oversee operations and provide uniform health and safety guidelines for the vendors. Clique Managing Partner Craig O’Keefe said many of the vendors are either new to the South Florida market, or were only operating as food trucks.

The food hall is still searching for purveyors interested in debuting at launch, O’Keefe said. Even once filled, he said the company will place interested entrepreneurs on a waiting list for when space is available.

Jarjura of Menin sees the food hall as an incubator for newer concepts and expects the Delray Beach Market's lineup of vendors to remain ever-changing through the years.
