An Easter weekend inspired by the sea

And just like that, it’s Easter weekend. There’s talk of brunch reservations and suppers outdoors. Among my fully vaccinated friends and relatives across South Florida, I’ve detected a renewed desire to venture out. Even the most cautious ones are making get-together plans and daring to speak of late-summer travel. It’s like this spring has swept in with a purpose. The nudge of the season has me filling my blender with fruit for smoothies and my lunch bowl with fresh salad greens. It’s not the weather that’s brought it on, it’s the seasonal mood.

Our talented collaborator J. Miller, a local food photographer and writer, captured that spirit in her beautiful “Easter feast by the sea” story and photo package. It features a menu that combines quick-fire chops and veggies to cook on the beachside grill and homemade bites, like our favorite Southern-style deviled eggs, pimento cheese spread, potato salad and a dreamy pineapple upside down cake that gets warmed up on the grill. If you prefer to dine out, check out our list of Easter Sunday brunches and dinners.

Stand-out seafood restaurants

For those seeking a seafood dinner on Good Friday, there are some new and newish restaurants to consider. There’s Okeechobee Prime Seafood, a sibling of the Okeechobee Steakhouse, which debuted last month in West Palm Beach. In Delray, Lionfish has been drawing fish-loving diners since its opening last September. In Palm Beach Gardens, FireFin Grill found its home next to Carmine’s Market in the fall of 2019. And for light and casual-gourmet seafood bites, there’s Chef Jeremy Bearman’s Fish Bowl food trailer at Rosemary Square.

Have a delicious weekend and happy Easter!
